The Free and Fit Challenge 2017 - Freedom in Reactions

The Free and Fit Challenge 2017 - Freedom in ReactionsBlog by Tim Cheux

Our energy and time are so often focused on persuasion, critical thinking and our opinion. Yet how we react is largely overlooked. When we interact with others our influence is often improved when we respond well. Finding freedom through positive reactions gives me personally great fulfillment.

As a wise man once told me our ears will never get us into trouble. The art of listening well can help build some of the strongest relationships in our lives. When interacting with others our responses should be first of all swift to hear (opening ourselves to listening to what they have to say). Secondly, slow to speak (not interrupting) and, finally, being slow to express our anger (responding slowly without demonstrating haste or reacting with wrath).

If instead of being angry we were to be kind to one another, tenderhearted and forgiving our friendships and family relationships would grow and prosper. Imagine! If instead of advising others when they shared their problems that instead we gave them comfort and encouraged them.

We could in fact replace advice with positive energy and share how far they had come and what a difference they can make in the future through this experience. Our responses matter! Our level of influence and impact are greatly improved when we react well.

It is also especially important that we do not express ourselves using negative body language, often this is worse than saying or writing anything negative. In order to respond well we must allow ourselves to pause, reflect and think before we speak.

One way I find confidence in responding well is by reciting positive reinforcements and counting to five. I recommend trying to count, reciting positive reinforcements and pausing to reflect as strategies which can help us to respond well.

When considering your own strategy remember everybody is different and our reactions are best managed through tried and tested tactics which help us as individuals. Whatever strategy you choose, remember to react well!

In the welcome and warm up introduce the topic and ask the members what they believe the topic to mean. 4. Read the verses in order before each exercise and ask the group to think about the verses during the three different exercise routines. 5. Reflect on the verses and topic at the end of session during a warm down and discuss the answers to each verse and questions at the end of the workout.

Bible Verses for Discussion on Reactions

2. “and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God also in Christ forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32 ASV

Psalms 40:2 ASV

4. “And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you.”

5. “Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
