Free and Fit Summer Camp - July 2018 - Your Questions Answered!

What is Free & Fit?

Free and Fit is a voluntary organization based in New York, New Jersey, London, England and the Northern Valley in New Jersey including Old Tappan, Norwood and Harrington Park. What is the Mission of Free and Fit? The mission of Free and Fit is to reduce loneliness through Sports, the Arts, Social Justice & Service. Who runs Free & Fit? Tim Cheux, the Founder of Free & Fit, is originally from London England where he was a School Chaplain, Youth Pastor, Sports Coach and Sports Chaplain. Tim works with his wife Elizabeth and a team of fellow volunteers, pastors, community friends and neighbors who breath life into a wonderful Youth Project started in November of 2017. What is the Free & Fit Youth Project? Tim was invited to lead a Youth project by 5 Churches; The Community Church in Harrington Park, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church also in Harrington Park, Trinity Reformed Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, both in Old Tappan, and the Presbyterian Church in Norwood. The Northern Valley Free & Fit Youth group meets regularly for monthly Movie Nights, Special Events, the Alpha Course and of course the brand new Free & Fit Summer Course. What is the Free & Fit Summer Camp? As part of his role this summer, after fundraising the funds to start a new camp, Tim launches a one week Middle School and High School Free & Fit Summer Camp between July 9th to July 13th at the Harrington Park Community Church. The Camp encompasses Free and Fit’s mission with great activities such as Swimming at Harrington Park Swimming Club, playing Golf at Closter Miniature Golf Course, visiting Long Branch Beach, going to the new CMX movie theatre at Closter Plaza, walking and observing the wonderful sculptures at Storm King in New York State, sorting and packing a food drive for local people in crisis, picking litter whilst playing, walking or jogging (Plogging) in local public parks and gardening at the Centre for Food Action in Englewood. Why start a Summer Camp? When asked about what motivates him to do this work, Tim said “Free and Fit operates to help young people make friends outside of school, church and after school clubs.” “Here in the Northern Valley we hope that by welcoming young people into third spaces where they can discuss real life issues and explore faith, they can truly find their purpose in life. Part of our mission is to offer service and through helping others we hope we can make an impact in our local neighborhood and essentially make the world a better place.” How can the Youth make the world a better place? Tim feels that his faith and this community of young believers can help impact their local neighborhood in the Spirit of Mr Rogers! “Jesus taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves and with the recent release of the new Mr Rogers movie we are reminded of how important it is to be good neighbors. The Free & Fit Youth aim to to love their Northern Valley neighbors through Sports, the Arts, Social Justice and Service.” As part of the Youth Program, the group recently went Plogging in Harrington Park, picking up litter in a local park while having fun. The group were not expecting to find any litter as Harrington Park is so clean, but the Free and Fit Youth group ended up filling three local trash bins to the top! To find out more about Plogging you can read our latest article on Sport, Scripture and Service here . How can I sign up to Camp?
