Free & Fit - Freedom from Covid 19 - Through Psalms, Pictures, Poems & Prayers on 2 Chronicl

Free & Fit - Freedom from Covid 19 - Through Psalms, Pictures, Poems & Prayers on 2 Chronicles 7:14 - Part 1.

Within this scripture there are five parts for which throughout this week I am going to be developing into a practical curriculum which will include the following key points. Each study will have a Picture, a Poem, a Psalm, a Prayer, and a part of this scripture, from 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Part One “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves,” Part Two “and pray and seek my face,” Part Three “and turn from their wicked ways, ”Part Four “then I will hear from heaven’ and Part Five “and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Each part of this scripture will follow with a Picture, Poem, Psalm and Prayer. The use of Spiritual Direction here, for either group or individual sessions, can be used and questions can be themed around the part of the verse and the reflection to create open and honest discussion with interactive discussion. It is encouraged, through open and honest questions, to build a time, a regular slot for each of the five sessions and to try and meet with the same individual or group regularly. This will allow the group or Directee and Director to build a rapport, relationship and allow a passageway for the Holy Spirit to breathe life into the reflections and meditations.

As suggested by Alice Fryling the use of Lectio Divino and Imaginative or Creative writing and drawing can help to interpret scripture. Lectio Divina is a slow way of being able to read, interpret and listen to the word of God, which can also be used to develop an understanding through reflection of how God maybe revealing a picture, image or pattern of Spiritual insight from our creator. Through imaginative interpretation Fryling encourages Spiritual Directors and Directees to use St Ignatius Spiritual Exercises. These allow the self to search, to find and set up ourselves in the Gospel story. Quite an amazing practice and one which I have personally used before. (Fryling, 2009; p66-691).

In order to meditate and reflect on the picture I have supplied both the Directee and Director the opportunity to read, imagine and bring to life a quote and an image together to see how the Holy Spirit speaks to them. This process may be attributed to Fryling as “the place of the heart. In the Bible, she says, that “the intellect, memory, emotions, desires and will” form the spiritual heart. Furthermore, she describes the ultimate relationship between the mind and the heart as a move from theoretical knowledge to actual experience (Fryling, 2009, p 55-572).

The author would like to allow all of our Spiritual senses to be ministered to through the reading of the word of God (hearing), Picturing the word of God (seeing), imagining through reading Poetry the feeling (touch) or emotions (taste) how the word of God informs them and finally through reading the Psalms how the word (smells) moves them to Pray.

Part One “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves”

Picture of Humility:

Poem for Humility:

He that is down needs fear no fall, He that is low, no pride; He that is humble ever shall Have God to be his guide. I am content with what I have, Little be it or much: And, Lord, contentment still I crave, Because Thou saves such.

John Bunyan

The Shepherd Boy sings in the Valley of Humiliation

Psalm for Humility:

Psalm 131

Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high;

I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.

Prayer for Humility - Disturb Us, Lord

Disturb us, Lord, when

We are too well pleased with ourselves,

When our dreams have come true

Because we have dreamed too little,

When we arrived safely

Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when

With the abundance of things we possess

We have lost our thirst

For the waters of life;

Having fallen in love with life,

We have ceased to dream of eternity

And in our efforts to build a new earth,

We have allowed our vision

Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,

To venture on wider seas

Where storms will show your mastery;

Where losing sight of land,

We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back

The horizons of our hopes;

And to push into the future

In strength, courage, hope, and love.
