Free & Fit - Summer with the Psalms - Monday August 26th Psalm 86

Summer with the Psalms

Monday August 26th Psalm 86

Opening Prayer

For a spirit of joy, we pray to the Lord.

For a space to grieve that which we must

let go of, we pray to the Lord.

For our laments to be transformed into

hymns of joy, we pray to the Lord.

In Jesus name. Amen

Psalm 86:6-7. NIV

Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.

Psalms‬ ‭86‬ in full:

Prayer & Reflection

When you think about the expression “all men” or “masculine” what do you think of? It makes me think of video games, lines of armies and the movie 300 based on medieval and ancient Roman soldiers fighting in battle. The concept of all humankind is quite different and draws me back to the concept of identity in Christ.

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. Psalm 86:12-13.

When we segregate ourselves, break ourselves into minority or majority groups we ultimately distinguish our differences and look at what divides us, not what unites us. Jesus Christ died so that we maybe united as one body of believers this is clear in John 17. We must, therefore, fix our eyes on Jesus and celebrate, continuously that one act of righteousness. The Victory of the Cross!

“But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”  Psalms‬ ‭86‬:‭15‬ ‭

As we enter the week a head and begin to look to Jesus we need to make sure we are not forgetting our fellow Brothers and Sisters. So why not this weekend invite your friends and family to Church, to pray for them or to simply encourage them with the Good News that Jesus loves them! In his name. Amen

Closing Prayer

For new life to flourish despite our fears

and doubts, we pray to the Lord.

For hope in waiting for the Lord to work within and around us, we pray to the Lord.

For encounters with Christ at the well, where we are welcomed into new life, we pray to the Lord.

Amen.

“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”
