Free & Fit Daily Devotion - Psalm 5 - 6/5/24 - by Tim Cheux

Summer with the Psalms

Wednesday 5th June 2024

“O Lord, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness; you cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked. Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil. You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers. Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe. Lead me in the right path, O Lord, or my enemies will conquer me. Make your way plain for me to follow. My enemies cannot speak a truthful word. Their deepest desire is to destroy others. Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with flattery. O God, declare them guilty. Let them be caught in their own traps. Drive them away because of their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Pastor Tim’s Reflection

Why is it so bad to lie? The true reason is that the only person you cheat in lying is really yourself. When we lie to ourselves we have no hope of return or repentance because we can’t see what is true, what is noble, what is praiseworthy and ultimately we can’t see whatever is that inspired to make us lie in the first place. It’s a lie which can’t be moderated.

If we deceive ourselves, and believe God doesn’t know, we don’t only hurt or impact our own lives, but we also hurt the lives of others and, ultimately, our relationship with God. If we love to lie, we maybe begin to lie so much that we forget how love works and the fact that God loved first. Ironically it was humans who lied first! If only we would accept that responsibility!

Don’t lie to yourself, don’t lie to others and especially don’t lie to God. In some ways we may believe lying is better than being honest. In some ways we may prefer living and following an alternative reality to our own lifestyle.

What ever way you see the world, make sure it’s through a lens of honesty, truth and not a lens of lies! However bad it might seem it’s even more difficult when we are lying, all alone and without access to God! Remember, God never lies, he never leaves and he always loves! Don’t fall for the deception of the evil one who is the Master of Lies! Instead, follow Jesus and the Truth! Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life! If you get to know the Truth in Jesus he will truly set you Free!

Prayer

Father help us not to deceive ourselves, our friends or our families! Help us O Lord not to lie to you and to always seek your Justice and Truth in Jesus name. Forgive us when we do lie  Lord, help us when we fall and help us so that we truly can overcome all things again in Jesus name. Amen

So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”
