Ecclesiastes 3 Reflection
Opening Verse
“A time to be born and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. [Heb 9:27]”
Ecclesiastes 3:2 AMP
Bible study and Reflection:
This week we have been reflecting upon Ecclesiastes and now in chapter 3 the concept of Time. On Friday as I was preparing today’s message I found it so exciting that we can identify ““A time to throw away stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing (Ecclesiastes 3:5 AMP).
That as a people we are planning on planting and uprooting, healing and building up when we move or stay. In all these things it reminded me of the simplicity of stones and Wendell Berry’s poem from his book of poems “Leavings” (2010).
How much delight I’ve known
in navigating down the flow
by stepping stones, by sounding
stones, by words that are
stepping and sounding stones.
Going down stone by stone,
the song of the water changes,
changing the way I walk
which changes my thought
as I go.
Stone to stone
the stream flows. Stone to stone
the walker goes. The words
stand stone still until
the flow moves them, changing
the sound – a new word –
a new place to step or stand.”
Sometimes God seeks to quieten our hearts and hear our cries through prayers. Sometimes God wants to quieten our voices and hear our joys. Sometimes God wants us to listen to him.
Mister Eckhart says “Nothing makes us true men and women but the giving up of our will. The only perfect and true will comes from entering into God’s will and being without self-will. For the perfection of our will means being in harmony with the divine will by willing what God wills, and the way he wills it……
……This is the true inner detachment: in it, the spirit stands immovable in the face of everything that befalls it, whether it is good or bad, honor or disgrace or calumny, just as a broad mountain stands immovable in the face of a little breeze.”
May Gods will be done and not our will in Jesus.
Amen
Verses for Salvation
“But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Romans 10:8-10 NIV
Prayer for Salvation
Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and for answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”
Lamentations 3:26 NLT
