Falling in Love with the Psalms

Friday 11th & Saturday 12th October

Psalms 141 & 142

Opening Verses

“Lord, I call upon You; hurry to me. Listen to my voice when I call to You. Let my prayer be counted as incense before You; The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering. [1 Tim 2:8; Rev 8:3, 4]”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭141‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Psalm 141 in full:

Psalm 142 Memory Verse:

““Bring my soul out of prison (adversity), So that I may give thanks and praise Your name; The righteous will surround me [in triumph], For You will look after me.””

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭142‬:‭7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Psalm 142 in full:

Psalm Prayer & Reflection: Our energy and time are so often focused on persuasion, critical thinking and our opinion. Yet how we react is largely overlooked. When we interact with others our influence is often improved when we respond well. Finding freedom through positive reactions gives me personally great fulfillment.

As a wise man once told me our ears will never get us into trouble. The art of listening and giving people time to express themselves can help build some of the strongest relationships in our lives. When interacting with others our responses should be swift to hear (opening ourselves to listening to what they have to say), slow to speak (not interrupting) and being slow to express our anger or responding hastily in wrath.

“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly]. Psalm 141:3

If instead of being angry we can be kind to one another, tenderhearted and forgiving to each other our friendships and family relationships will grow and prosper. Imagine instead of advising others when they share their problems, instead you gave them comfort and encouraged them to share how far they had come and what a difference they can make in the future through this experience. Our responses matter; our influence and impact are greatly improved when we react well.

Do not incline my heart to [consent to or tolerate] any evil thing, Or to practice deeds of wickedness With men who plan and do evil; And let me not eat of their delicacies (be tempted by their gain).”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭141‬:‭4‬ ‭AMP‬‬

It is also especially important that we do not express ourselves using negative body language, often this is worse than saying or writing anything negative. In order to respond well we must allow ourselves to pause, reflect and think before we speak, act or interact with others.

One way I find confidence in responding well is by reciting positive reinforcements and counting to five. I recommend trying to count, reciting positive reinforcements and pausing to reflect to respond well. Whatever you do, react well!

Verses for Salvation

“But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:8-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Prayer for Salvation

Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and for answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”

‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬
