Falling in Love with the Psalms

Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th October, Psalm 137 & 138

Opening Prayer

Father God we thank you that you greet us where we are at. That you welcome us into your gates of heaven, into this world and into relationship with you. Help us to always remind ourselves that you are right there with us closer than a Brother in Jesus name. Amen

“But how can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a pagan land?”

Reflections:

How do you greet your friends? How do you greet your family? In the middle of an Anglican, Catholic or Lutheran Church service they greet in the service with a sign of sharing Gods Peace. This is the Peace with which Christ greeted the Disciples with for the first time whilst they were in hiding from the threat of local authorities. How we greet each another in the tradition of our faith is with a Holy Kiss. In the origins of our faith, from the very beginning we were a persecuted people and often oppressed from

Local laws and secular culture not allowing us to practice our religion.

Paul is asking the Church in Corinth to take their faith, their fellowship and their family in the faith seriously by acknowledgement of a Holy Kiss. This is similar to how perhaps French or European cultures greet one another. I am always aware of meeting my French family friends when in Normandy as I always get four kisses on either side of my cheek! It was often a sign of Liza’s Grandma greeting you that would receive a big smacker on your cheek as you would have red lipstick on your cheek! Perhaps a Holy Kiss is more sacred, but the symbol, the sign and welcome of greeting one another is what is important!

As fellow believers we are called to follow Christ through being ambassadors of encouragement. That is to encourage one another with a Holy help, an encouragement in our faith and in our community to know we are not alone. As the Church we are called to greet the community as Christ would greet his Disciples. So today May Gods grace and peace be with you always, forever and everywhere you go in Jesus name. Amen

Let us Pray…

Father please teach us to greet each other with a Holy Kiss of encouragement, to greet one another in love and to express Christ’s peace with each other. Help us not to be silent about our faith and to share our love of Christ with everyone we greet and meet with a sign of Christ’s Peace in Jesus name. Amen

“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”

‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬
