Free & Fit Advent Challenge Day 19- Proverbial Prayers & Planks - Advent Devotions from Proverbs with a Word, Proverb & Exercise Everyday - Thursday 12/19/24

Today’s word on December 19 is: Praise - So how should we live? “Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:5‬

‭NRSV‬‬.

We are to live in the city, dwell amongst the City we live, to plant gardens and eat what they produce. So rather than draw attention to our past hurts. Our focus must be away from pain and hurt even in the darkness, we need to return to the light. To turn back to God, to turn back to you Father Son and Holy Spirit and to turn to the city in which we live.

As in Jeremiah 29. To not complain about the bad fig or shrug our shoulders about not being the chosen good fig and to build my house, plant my garden and this Christmas get some figgy pudding!

Today’s Proverb is Proverbs 19 verse One -  "Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse."

In the Amplified - “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity Than a [rich] man who is twisted in his speech and is a [shortsighted] fool.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Today’s movement is - Toe Touches - Lower-body exercise to target hamstrings and improve flexibility!

Reflection:

The reality is we all face physical, spiritual, mental and social challenges in the world that we now see and we, as the Church, together you and I, can maximise our impact in the world we live in through accomplishing my vision for Free & Fit to build community through Sports, the Arts, Outreach, Service.

One way of doing that is raising awareness of the issues we all see in our world. Then with one shared goal uniting as one Body of believers to overcome the issues together. Mother Theresa once said “What I can do you can not do. What you can do I can not do. But together we can do something beautiful for God.” Such insightful remarks about what we can do together as a team, rather than being isolated as one individual. This is not dissimilar to sports, the practice of working together on the same team, working to achieve a shared goal and to reduce the workload. By dividing roles and responsibilities equally it helps to measure the impact you can have and that which ultimately improves your chances of success.

The art of sharing, being a part of something bigger than yourself and developing community is integral for an individual to be physically, socially, spiritually, emotionally well. At Free & Fit I believe in combining Faith and Fitness, our original name when we launched in May 2013, as one. When practiced together, not separately, they can form spiritual practices. For example, when running on the road prayers can be said, when jogging to work worship songs can be sung and when walking or hiking contemplation can happen in relationship with God.

As believers in Christianity, and Christian spirituality specifically, at Free & Fit I believe in sharing the sacred spoken word of God in the Bible. Jesus, before going to be hung on the cross, prayed that all believers (that he is the son of God) would be one with him and one with his Father, God almighty and the creator of the universe. I believe, that that through working out and praying contemplatively, Faith (belief in Jesus Christ) and fitness (physical activity) can be practiced as spiritual practices together as one formational action.

In conclusion, Jesus prayer is our shared prayer. I pray that our Faith and Fitness would become one as we are one with Christ and as we are one with each other through community and fellowship together.

Closing Prayer

This is all made possible in and through our relationship with the Trinitarian God Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe we can all participate in faith and fitness to Love God and love all people as one in Jesus name. Amen

“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”

‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬
