Free & Fit Advent Challenge Day 26 - Proverbial Prayers & Planks - Advent Devotions from Proverbs with a Word, Proverb & Exercise Everyday - Saturday 21st December 2024

Today’s word is Rejoice - “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Word. What does it mean? In Jewish tradition it means when the prayers begin. The Friday night Worship service, followed by Morning Prayer and Noon Day Prayer. The Shabbat Shallom comes to bring us peace in the order of the Creation story. In order of how to pray and in order of how to rest. God is Good. All the Time. We can Rejoice in this, as Paul teaches, we can Rejoice always!

Jesus was with us in the beginning, not a formless void or a late arrival, but since the beginning of time. The Word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus is the Word. Jesus is the Way. The Truth. The Life nobody comes to the Father except through him.

Today’s Proverb is Proverbs 26 verse 1 "Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honor is not fitting for a fool."

In the Amplified it translates as: “Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a [shortsighted] fool. [Is 32:6]”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭26‬:‭1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Reflection & Prayer:

Where do you place your trust?

Where do you go when you or your team performs badly?

How do you over come defeat?

Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”

I thought to myself trust my football teams result to the Lord? Place my trust in him to get us a result?!

No, thats not point. Where we place our trust should not be in eleven men on a soccer field, in the referee or in our desire for our team to win. Instead we should place all things, our desires, our goals and our dreams at the foot of the Cross and entrust them to the Lord. We should put all our trust in the Lord.

Verse 6 goes on “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” We should trust and seek Gods will in all we do and he will show us which path to take.

Our football teams results, our desire for our teams to do well and our complaints of defeat or gloating in victory are not bad things.

The point is that we should not place our trust in football alone or be over reliant upon our teams or countries performance. We should avoid focusing all our feelings and emotions on the outcome of our teams results.

Then, if instead we trust the Lord, when it comes to the end of the season in May we wont don’t have to be completely heart broken or disappointed. Winning the league, getting in the playoffs or getting relegated wont matter as our trust will be in the one who saves our lives, and not our last minute penalties. Praising and Worshipping Jesus Christ is the way we should go! Let us Pray...

Father we thank you for your victory on the Cross, that through the death and resurrection of your son, the risen Jesus Christ, we can place our trust in you and rejoice always in eternity with you. In Jesus Name. Amen

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:7–8, ESV)

Almighty God,

who sent your Holy Spirit

to be the life and light of your Church:

open our hearts to the riches of your grace,

that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit

in love and joy and peace;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.
