Free & Fit Advent Challenge Day 5- Proverbial Prayers & Planks Advent Devotions from Proverbs with a Word, Proverb & Exercise Everyday - Thursday December 5th
The Word of the Day is Avoid - do not cling to this world. It sells us much and delivers little. God offers us his full self on a Cross to die for us and welcomes us home into the Gates of Eternity. Do not be confused, God cannot be mocked and we must avoid the way of the world and following an evil rhetoric.
Our Proverb for today is Chapter 5 verse 8. Proverbs 5:8 "Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers."
In the Amplified it refers to the person of Evil, the choice of Wisdom and freedom in avoiding crossing evils path.
“Let your way [in life] be far from her, And do not go near the door of her house [avoid even being near the places of temptation], [Prov 4:15; Rom 16:17; 1 Thess 5:19-22]”
Proverbs 5:8 AMP

Full Reflection & Prayer:
It is during the Fifth Century that the rule of Benedict was created. Benedict believed in very specific ways of living. In creating eight hours of sleep, eight hours of prayer, eight hours of works including essentials reading of the Bible and Praying Daily. This is where the practice of prayer meets reading the practice of reading the Bible. Benedict clearly believed prayer and rest were essential, but that reading the word of God and Worship could also enthuse both prayer and sleep. This practice of reading the Bible could also be included in the acts of service and the pursuit of providing charity (love) for the poor and needy.
Through a devout practice of eight hours of prayer, sleep and works towards charity and peace we can see the evidence of the rule of Benedict in our everyday lives today. Most Christian and non-Christian people believe eight hours of sleep is healthy. An average work day is eight hours and so the rest of our time should be spent in prayer! Moving, living and breathing in prayer!
Indeed the Bible states we should never be ceasing in Prayer, but we are also encouraged to read our Bibles and of course Worship. If we do not Worship how can we prepare for heaven? After all we are all called to be Praising 24/7 in Heaven. Why not here on earth as it is in Heaven? What Rule of Benedict will be practiced in Heaven?
It will be exciting to learn how we will be formed as a community of believers all Worshipping God in Heaven. Perhaps, more likely to my own belief, all our acts are Worship in Heaven and we must be living in a Worshipful mentality and approach to God. All our faith is focused on an eternal life to ultimately to be Worshiping God and so therefore, as we prepare to be with Christ, we must also seek to Worship Christ now and in the not yet.
As we spend time in Gods Word, in Prayer and in preparation for Worship on Sunday I am always humbled by my need to return to God. To seek Peace and Pursue it. Hebrews 10:19-23 contains an important truth for us today.
The Scripture says: “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. “
Do you still trust and believe God is faithful today? Sometimes when we feel aggrieved we can question Gods providence, authority and plan for this world. When we see so much illness, infirmity and death in our world we can question where is God in amongst of all that is going on. The Disciples must also have had similar questions to Thomas who demanded that Jesus reveal himself as the Resurrected Christ. Today we still hold similar demands. For God to show up, to reveal who he is and show us who is today in the here and now of our human world. This is true for all of us. As mere mortals we doubt, question and debate most things.
Wherever you find yourself today. Whether I’m confident, living in the blessed assurance or in question about Gods provision for your life today you must be sure of this today. God knows you, he loves you and whether we believe it or not he has a plan. When the Disciples did not understand Jesus saying that this “Temple would be rebuilt in three days” the Disciples didn’t understand what he was going to do. When Moses couldn’t complete the journey to the promised land he didn’t understand. Today when you are struggling similarly to The Disciples, Moses and many other Christians you may question God. It’s natural to always question the supernatural.
We must remind ourselves that we believe in the unseen, in the not yet and it is often incredibly difficult to make sense of what God is doing. However, as God restored Jesus through his death and resurrection God is going to restore you and I with him in eternity in heaven. We can believe, trust and know that God is faithful through even the most difficult seasons and that he indeed has a Divine plan for all Humanity in Jesus name. Amen
Let us Pray…
Father we ask for your Holy Spirit to speak to us today, to help us journey through our struggles and help us reflect more of who you are in what we are doing. Help us to know you, trust you and love you through it all in Jesus name. Amen
“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”
