Free & Fit - Insights from Isaiah - Daily Decisions & Devotions

Today’s word is Endurance!
Today’s move is Jogging on the Spot!
Today’s verse is Isaiah 50:10-11!
“Who is among you who fears the Lord, Who obeys the voice of His Servant, Yet who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust and be confident in the name of the Lord and let him rely on his God. Listen carefully, all you who kindle your own fire [devising your own man-made plan of salvation], Who surround yourselves with torches, Walk by the light of your [self-made] fire And among the torches that you have set ablaze. But this you will have from My hand: You will lie down in [a place of] torment. [Is 66:24]”

Prayer & Reflection: This week our Tennis Varsity season started and like many other schools in our region we were barely able to put together our team for tryouts. We had one session on Monday last week and since then, this week, we had our first fixture away at Christ School in Asheville. As the team’s Assistant Coach and Chaplain I was able to attend, pray, chat and travel with the team court side with the players, head coach and our opposing team’s fans, players and coaches likewise.
The season is already upon us and today we played Charlotte Latin and I got to experience the opportunity of playing on their courts; which are some of the most beautiful and spacious courts I have seen at a school since coaching at Flushing Meadows. It was quite an experience to be on a school campus that was bigger than my own University campus at undergraduate level back in the UK! All these experiences help me understand why it’s so important to understand the differences between competition and recreation. Winning and losing. Play and recreation. Faith in Christ and Faith in a sports team.
Ultimately, whether we win or lose in sports we must remember that we all take part for the Glory and Honor of representing Christ and not simply to win. We have an obligation, but it is not to our own flesh, it is to our identity as a Son or Daughter of Jesus Christ. Whereever you rest your hat tonight, remember that Jesus is real, he is alive and he wants you to join him in the Victory of the Cross. To become whole in Jesus and to be conscious of being co- heirs with Christ!
Let us Pray…
Father help us to be receptive to you, to what you have done and what it all means for us in eternity to be with you. Help us to follow you in Jesus the Way, the Truth and the Life in Jesus name. Amen
