Juneteenth - Freedom Day

Today we remember the sacrifice of so many who lost their lives in the pursuit of Freedom. Juneteenth.

My own understanding of this day is limited as a white British male I only look back at the pain, despair and dismay left by my forefathers and the culture that created slavery in the US.

Yet, their is hope. Through the sacrifice, through the learning and through the education which is now possible for us to learn today we can all live differently, in the reverence of all of Gods creation and consider all his people equally amazing in his image.

Today is not for guilt, shame or misunderstanding as we inevitably will feel. Instead today is for Freedom, it’s for giving us eyes to see things differently today than yesterday and to not hold the same past prejudices as before.

Let us glorify God in giving everyone we meet a hug, a hand shake or a smile as we impart Gods Peace to all of Gods people. Let us Love God and Love People, forgiving ourselves and freeing everybody from a yoke of slavery. It is for FREEDOM that Christ has set us FREE!
