Free & Fit - Insights from Isaiah - Daily Decisions & Devotions

Today’s word is Movement!

Today’s move is Walk, Jog & Run!

Today’s verse is Isaiah 49:16!

““Indeed, I have inscribed [a picture of] you on the palms of My hands; Your city walls [Zion] are continually before Me.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭49‬:‭16‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Prayer & Reflection: During the Winter it is harder to exercise and easier to appetitse! Yes, that’s right when the server comes around and asks if you would like to see the dessert menu we may just be a little bit more inclined to fill our bellies; rather than run an incline on the treadmill or build our reps with dumbbells! What we do with our free time, how we approach our leisure time and refuse to take action will only make our struggle to be motivated to move our muscles.

The difference between motivation and missed opportunities are fine when days in winter mean we simply leave for work, drive to and from then only have enough energy to microwave or defrost a meal for dinner. Instead, how can we become more motivated to move our muscles and energized to exercise our bodies. The process of changing our mental attitude to activate our physical body involves a significant shift in approach, style and thought patterns. To be able to do so we must focus our energy and attention on the benefit, the feeling afterwards and the outcome of becoming more fit for the future.

Whilst researching potential methods to improve movement and more accessible motivational methods I found that community, connections and competition all helped to bring people closer together, outside of the home and into sports or fitness based activities. My own racquet sports and movement has hugely benefited from the likes of badminton, tennis, squash, racket ball, paddle ball and pickle ball to find friends, move more easily and remain committed to moving my muscles.

Based on various studies and expert insights, here are ways tennis and racquet sports specifically benefit health and longevity:

Physical Benefits:

1. Aerobic Fitness: Tennis and racquet sports improve cardiovascular health, increasing lifespan by 4.5-7 years (Source: Mayo Clinic)

2. Weight Management: Regular play helps maintain healthy weight, reducing risk of chronic diseases (Source: American Council on Exercise)

3. Increased Strength/Flexibility: Racquet sports enhance muscular strength and flexibility, reducing injury risk and improving overall mobility (Source: International Tennis Federation)

Mental & Emotional Benefits:

1. Reduced Stress/Anxiety: Playing tennis and racquet sports lowers cortisol levels, alleviating stress and anxiety (Source: Harvard Health Publishing)

2. Improved Mood: Releases endorphins, boosting mood and overall sense of well-being (Source: Psychology Today)

3. Enhanced Cognitive Function: Racquet sports improve concentration, memory, and problem-solving skills (Source: University of Illinois study)

Longevity Specifics:

1. Increased Telomerase Activity: Tennis play is linked to higher telomerase activity, slowing cellular aging (Source: Brigham Young University study)

2. Reduced Mortality Risk: Playing racquet sports regularly lowers mortality risk by 47% compared to inactive adults (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

This Winter as we get ever so closer to the ultimate Revelation of Resurrection at Easter and Gods sacrifice are we confident of our own future and with the one who holds it? Yes, we maybe thinking about it, but are we truly living it out? Are we moving and making our bodies available to God as a living sacrifice? Lets turn it back to the start. Let’s every morning intentionally head out the door at the start with the one who marked out the road in front of us to move us, mold us and gave us breath. Let’s live a life of movement for Jesus! In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Let us Pray…

Be with us today God, transform us and change us into your image, make us just like you and help us to fix our eyes on you all day long in Jesus name. Amen

For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes]. [Is 40:13]”
