Free & Fit - Summer with the Psalms - Sunday June 23rd Psalm 23
Summer with the Psalms
Sunday June 23rd Psalm 23

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalms 23:1-6 NLT
Pastor Tim’s Reflection
When we first got to New York I was seeking to build community after running large and small groups in London. It had been the bedrock of our community, large groups of over 100 people or more and small groups of 10 or 20 or more. We were large in number and large in relationship.
We knew our God, we knew our people and we knew our purpose. Yet, since arriving in America it hasn’t been quite the same. People seem to be less interested in working in teams and more for themselves. Where in England selfish ambition and pride is squashed, in America it is celebrated and the strongest currency.
Creating community, finding community and building community is hard. Since arriving in Charlotte we have had similar problems with people being less open than in bigger cities, reluctant to create friendships and at times it has been lonely.
Even with an open door policy, with serving in community and offering hope the responses have sometimes been cold, unconventionally rude and difficult. Not the hospitality we had hoped for in the South coming from the North. We continue to work hard in our city, serving the community as building is not possible and difficult today. Making Disciples is hard, life can be hard and our Psalm today offers us hope.
Even when we walk through the Valley of Death, even when we seem to be alone and even when people are despondent our God can be responsive. Today, if you’re like me, feeling a little down trodden, heart heavy or walking sluggishly let’s walk with God together. Allowing Him to hold our hand, hold our head up high and grant us grace in the midst of whatever is going on. We need you God so please show up for us!
Prayer
Father God we thank you that even when we walk through difficult, lonely or challenging times you can show up, make a way and disturb our perspective. Please Lord God hold our hands, hold our hearts and hold our dreams in your wonderful heavens and help us to follow your will for our lives leading us, guiding us and rescuing us again and again in Jesus name. Amen
“So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”
Lamentations 3:26 NLT
