When I moved to London in 2009 I was not a practicing christian. Previously whilst teaching in Cambridge I had been exploring the Christian faith, asking questions, attending Church and praying. Yet, throughout my questioning, I did not find the answer in these areas. It was deeper, darker and more intellectual than just putting my hand in the air on a Sunday. If I am honest I was like C.S Lewis one of the most reluctant converts. Indeed, my searching really began in 2007 in Bournemouth whilst in my first graduate job. One of my friends, a Mormon, witnessed to me and invited me to Church. This was my first step in pursuing the Christian faith. In fact, that conversation, that witness and that step of faith back in 2007 started my journey towards finding Christ.
When I eventually got to London, I struggled in my transition and had to wrestle with some very difficult lifestyle choices which made me lose friends, sacrifice social circles and become much more aware of how I viewed my role as a witness of Christ. In the end, I landed at All Souls Church in London and gave my life to Christ publicly declaring my faith after being confirmed. This was my first act to share I was a Christian in the Church of England. Its not easy being Christian, its not easy sharing your testimony and its not possible to share it one short devotional.
Prior to that I lived a very different lifestyle. I was not recklessly different to I am today. I still make mistakes, I still suffer the consequences for difficult decisions and I constantly need Jesus. The difference is that I know that I need to live differently, to surrender my life and to suffer for Christ. No matter the outcome. Perhaps I didn’t turn out to be a Mormon, perhaps I am not a perfect example and certainly I have my doubts along the road. However, when I started reading the Bible everyday it made a huge difference in my life and now I live for Jesus.
It was the witness of two QPR soccer chaplains (Priests) who I first went to see after a game one Saturday prior to visiting All Souls which really challenged me. First one who walked me to his Church , I attended my first Christmas in London, and another who gave me time together to meet one to one discussion and gave me a Bible which helped me to articulate how to live a better life.
To be honest it took an Army to convert me. Including a dear friend Kate from South Africa who took me to Church, invited me to All Souls and it is there where I met Rico Tice who made everything plain to me, relevant and apply to my everyday life.
This is the story of part of my testimony. It’s so complicated that this does not really do it justice. Yet, you can imagine we call have someone like me in my life. That person we pray for, the person we love on and the people we wish who knew Christ. Lets today make a decision to follow Jesus. To give up our old way of life, to live a new bold life and declare our hope for Jesus.
Wherever you are today, no matter how you feel and where you land on the emotional radar. I want to assure you that God loves you, knows you and wants to live everyday with you for the sake of your life. So that he can save you, through his Son Jesus Christ, and allow you to live everyday for him. So if you are interested, have questions or need help. Give Jesus a call, seek help and raise your hand today and everyday for Jesus! In His name. Amen
Let us Pray…
Father we thank you that no matter how we fall, no matter how far we run and no matter where we land you are still there with us guarding a way and making us safely and securely land in your arms. We pray today Lord that you would rescue us again and return us to you in Jesus name. Amen
“For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes]. [Is 40:13]”
1 Corinthians 2:16 AMP
